Driver Survives Amtrak Crash In Virginia

A Virginia man escaped death after an Amtrak train hit his car at 5:57a.m. on Route 40 in Waverly, Virginia.  The train, traveling 80 mile per hour, struck the vehicle of Untron Drew after he blatantly ignored a crossing bar and flashing lights.  Drew, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was med flighted to a hospital in Richmond where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Police have begun to investigate the crash, claiming alcohol was a definite factor.  Although none of the train passengers or crew were injured, police have charged Drew with reckless driving, failure to obey crossing signals, and not wearing a seatbelt.
