17 Items You Should Always Carry In Your Car

The winter weather has made its unfortunate debut, and this means less than perfect driving conditions for fellow road-goers.  In the case of an emergency, every car should be equipped with the appropriate safety gear.  Check out these 17 items that you should always carry in your car:

  1. Flashlight- If you get stuck at night and need to see into the car or under the hood, a flashlight is a good tool to have.
  2. Tire-pressure gauge- Tire pressure should be checked once per month.
  3. First-aid kit- For minor injuries that don't require a 911 call.
  4. Owner's manual- To help you identify a blown fuse.
  5. Tire-changing tools- A jack and other tools are essential to have in a car.  Flat tires are unfortunate but common.
  6. Warning Triangles- Give fellow drivers a warning that there is a stopped vehicle ahead.
  7. Multi-tool- The multi-tool should include at least a knife, pliers, screwdriver tips and scissors for wire cutting and other needs.
  8. Fuses- Will help you fix common electrical issues.
  9. Jumper Cables- Forget to turn your head-lights off? Jump start your car battery with jumper cables.
  10. Duct Tape- Tape can temporarily mend many things, such as a broken window.
  11. Map or Atlas- Just in case your GPS is acting up.
  12. Paper Towels- Clean up spills that may occur in the car, or check your oil.
  13. Spare Key- Just in case you lock your keys inside the car, which has happened to one too many of us.  Hide the spare key in a magnetic key case behind the bumper.
  14. Pale or Bucket- This can be used to store all of your safety tools.  It can also be used to carry water to refill the radiator.
  15. Garbage Bags- Another tool that can be used to mend broken windows, or to cover a muddy ground when you need to change a tire.
  16. Gloves- Allow you touch hot parts underneath the hood of the car.
  17. Old Cellphone- Even a deactivated phone can call 911.  Keep it as a spare just in case your phone dies or has no service.
