Prepare your Vehicle for the Winter

October is Fall Car Care Month!  As the month comes to an end it is really time to make sure that your car is ready for the colder weather.  Taking a few simple steps now can save you the headache and the cost of an emergency breakdown later.  You can bring your car down to Wantagh Mitsubishi and we will take care of everything for you.  If you decide to take care of it yourself the Car Care Council recommends five proactive steps to make sure your car is ready for winter driving.

  1. Battery - You should keep the battery connections clean, tight and corrosion-free.  The cold weather is harsh on batteries, so it's wise to check the battery and charging system.  A battery should be replaced every three years.
  2. Heater, Defrosters and Wiper Blades - Check that the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system are working properly as it is critical for interior comfort and for safety reasons, such as defrosting.  Wiper blades that are torn, cracked or don't properly clean your windshield should be replaced.
  3. Tires - Check the tires, including the pressure and tread depth, which are essential for traction when it snows.  Uneven wear on your tires indicates a need for wheel alignment.  If snow and ice are a problem in your area, consider special tires designed for gripping slick roads.
  4. Brakes - Have your brake system checked, including brake linings, rotors and drums.  Brakes are critical to vehicle safety and are even more important when driving on slippery roads.
Taking preemptive action to get your vehicle ready for the winter is very important, for more information and full checklist please visit http://goo.gl/4zgsqH.
